A dramatic late-night police checkpoint operation on Amravati Road in Nagpur turned dangerous after a speeding Eicher vehicle allegedly tried to break through a barricade, seriously injuring a police constable.
According to police officials, the incident took place around 1:30 AM near Have Glori Hotel on Amravati Road, where the MIDC Traffic Police team had set up a special night checking operation.
Police personnel including PSI Ratan Umbarkar, Head Constables Narayan Chaudhary and Praful, along with constables Sujit, Pratik, and Santosh, were inspecting vehicles during the naka checking drive.

During the operation, an Eicher vehicle bearing registration number MH 32 AJ 3060 approaching from Wadi Naka at high speed reportedly raised suspicion. When police signaled the driver to stop, he allegedly ignored the warning and rammed straight into the barricade.
The impact was so severe that the barricades were thrown into the air, leaving Constable Santosh critically injured. Doctors have reportedly confirmed fractures in his right leg and shoulder.
Even after the collision, the accused driver allegedly continued driving for nearly one kilometre before being chased down and arrested by PSI Ratan Umbarkar and his team. During the pursuit, PSI Umbarkar also sustained minor injuries to his hand.
The injured constable is currently undergoing treatment at Aryan City Hospital and his condition is said to be serious.
Following the incident, officials from the MIDC Traffic Department visited the spot for inspection. Nagpur Police have registered a case against the driver for reckless and drunk driving, and further investigation is underway.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over the safety of police personnel deployed during late-night barricading and traffic enforcement operations.
