Drug peddler with MD powder worth Rs 59,300 arrested in Nagpur

Nagpur: Continuing their crackdown on drug peddlers under Police Commissioner Ravinderkumar Singal’s “Operation Thunder” initiative, Yashodhara Nagar Police arrested a 25-year-old man late on December 9 for possessing mephedrone (MD) powder.

Around 11:20 pm, a police patrol team was conducting rounds in the Yashodhara Nagar jurisdiction when they noticed a suspicious man attempting to flee near an old paan kiosk opposite Hamlog Villa Lawn on Kalamna Road. The team immediately chased and apprehended him.

On questioning, the suspect identified himself as Sohel Ali (25), son of Liaqat Ali, a resident of Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Yashodhara Nagar, Nagpur.

A search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of 9.56 grams of MD powder concealed in two ziplock packets inside the dark-brown jacket he was wearing. Police also seized Rs 1,500 in cash, a mobile phone, and the narcotics, collectively valued at Rs 59,300.

During interrogation, Sohel revealed that the seized MD powder had been supplied to him by Adil Khan (28), a resident of Mahal near Kalyaneshwar Temple, who is now wanted by the police.

Police said Sohel was found to be in possession of the narcotics for illegal sale to earn quick money. A case has been registered against him under Sections 8(c), 21(b), and 29 of the NDPS Act at Yashodhara Nagar Police Station. The accused has been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the absconding supplier.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravinderkumar Singal, Joint CP Naveenchandra Reddy, Additional CP (South Region) Shivajirao Rathod, DCP Zone 5 Niketan Kadam, and ACP (Kalamna Division) Rohit Owhal. The team included Senior PI Pramod Kumar Baghele, PSI Vaibhav Nage, and constables Abdul Wakeel, Sunny Matel, Pankaj Parate, Bhushan Yerojwar, and Ashish.
