When a youth feels the need for getting equipped for a vocation at the earliest, is from the rural area and knows his limitations, chooses ITI which provides the right inputs, various technical training and vocational expertise so that he or she can earn a decent live hood. This was a dream of Late Haribhau Uskelwar to provide quality education to every youngster so that they are equipped with skills to earn a decent livelihood. In an exclusive interview with Nagpur Today, Director of Late Laxmanrao Vastad (Uskelwar) ITI Suchit Uskelwar said that the institute is finally helping me in realizing my father’s dreams.
The Late Laxmanrao Vastad (Uskelwar) ITI Institute offers professional or vocational course that moulds fresh SSC passed school students in such a way that he is equipped with skills which the industry requires today helping him to get gainful employment at the earliest and starts earning a decent livelihood as soon as he or she completes his or her course.
The Institute was started by Late Haribhau Uskelwar who was a Group Instructor in Government ITI, 22 years back and has since become a renowned name in Private ITI training in Maharashtra. Suchit Uskelwar, the son of the founder of the institute, a Chartered Accountant by profession took forward his father’s dream and joined the institution 10 years back. The Institute has been ranked twice Second and Third in private training category. Presently it has got an “A” Grade in technical education.
Suchit Uskelwar informed that any student who has passed his SSC is eligible for getting admitted in to Industrial Training Institute. The duration of a course depends upon the trade opted by the aspirant from a basic course of one year to a diploma of 3 years. Each course is designed in such a way to impart basic skill in the trade specified.
Uskelwar added that their flagship course “Production Oriented Training Scheme” (P.O.T.S) and Earn and Learn Programmes are the uniqueness and salient features of Laxmanrao Vastad (Uskelwar) ITI. In Production Oriented Training Scheme programme, the youth gets to experience Practical training along with his regular studies. This they achieve by undertaking various contracts (technical as well as others) which the company usually gives to some skilled labourers. These students of ITI get to earn their stipend by actually working under the skilled master-skilled workers. This helps the students to get on-job training as well as a chance to redeem his or her fees by earning the labour charges.

The Institute (ITI) provides training for courses in electrical technician, Motor-vehicle mechanic, Computer Hardware repair and assembling, Computer software, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, plumbers, Carpenter, diesel mechanic, Welder, electrician, fitter etc. The Institute’s other salient features are e-learning and state-of the-art machinery and updated training.
He further informed that the institute has Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 37 prominent Industries of the region where the students get to do internship. The students also get to work in Railways Locomotive Department.
The Institute lays emphasis on imparting employability skills to the student. Opportunities for ITI technicians are immense, said Uskelwar. Most of the students get employed with various industries in and around the city, since there is huge demand for skilled labours. Students can also start their own business after the completions of their course. For capital and other financial support, they can avail of loans provided by various Nationalized Banks.
Laxmanrao Vastad (Uskelwar) ITI Institute comes under the Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET). The National Council For Vocational Training (NCVT) conducts the ITI Examinations. The students can get spot admissions on merit basis and admissions are open till August 16.
Suchit Uskelwar wants to provide quality education to the students and works for 18 to 20 hours every day and believes in discipline and hard work. He is a nature lover and is fond of Photography. He has two daughters studying in St Xavier High School. Like every successful person having a beautiful woman who stand by him and supports him all the way, his wife helps Suchit in the administration of the institute. Suchit who is a very down to earth person, gives credit to all father, his friends, and all those who have been very supportive of him and his institute.
