Dr Apte is Vidarbha Orthopaedic Society’s new president

vos-dr-apteNagpur: City’s orthopedic surgeon Dr Ashutosh Apte took over the reigns of the Vidarbha Orthopaedic Society (VOS) as president while Dr Amol Kadu as its secretary at an elaborate function on Sunday.

The chief guest of the ceremony was padmabhushan Dr N S Laud from Mumbai. Dr Sudhir Babhulkar was the guest of honour for the installation ceremony which was attended by 100 orthopaedic surgeons from Vidarbha.

This year VOS has pledged to work on a theme ‘creating awareness to save lives, where various programmes will be conducted throughout the year to create awareness about the detrimental effects of road traffic accidents and urging the society to think about road safety.

Dr N S Laud in his address to the gathering mentioned the importance of being good human being to become a good orthopaedic surgeons. He urged the gathering of surgeons to think compassionately towards the society and patients. He stressed on simple values of life to be a good surgeon.

Dr Laud further described the technique of replacing the hip joint in such fractures in very old patients to make them mobile and independent as early as possible.

A clinical session on management of trochanteric fracture was conducted before the installation ceremony. Dr. Sushrut Babhulkar conducted the programme and lot of brainstorming was done on changing horizons of management of trochanteric fractures. Hip fractures, being majorly a fracture of old age, usually poses lot of problems in management with unpredictable results. Newer implant designs and technical advances were discussed to tackle this major health issue.
