Director General of National Cadet Corps (NCC) Lt Gen Aniruddha Chakravarty, Vishistha Seva Medal, was on a visit to Nagpur on May 22-23. During his two-day stay in city, Lt Gen Chakravarty visited Officers’ Training Academy, NCC at Kamptee and also the NCC Group Headquarters at Civil Lines.
While addressing the NCC Officers, staff and cadets, the Director General said, “Our aim is to develop the character, comraderie, discipline, leadership, secular values amongst the cadets. NCC should never lose the sight of its aim. While inculcating the spirit of adventure, we should also be imbibing the ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country and should relentlessly pursue these objectives,” asserted Lieutenant General Aniruddha Chakravarty.
During his visit to the NCC Group Headquarters, Lt Gen Chakravarty was received by Maj Gen Subodh Kumar, Additional Director General Maharashtra and Group Captain Mahesh Upasani, Group Commander. The Director General NCC took a stock of NCC training activities in Nagpur and also interacted with the cadets and staff.
Earlier, during his visit to the OTA in Kamptee, Lt Gen Chakravarti was briefed on various aspects of training of the instructional staff of NCC. Maj Gen R K Sharma, Commandant OTA, conducted the DG NCC on classroom and outdoor demonstrations. Lt Gen Chakravarti also visited the state-of-the-art indoor firing range and simulator.
Lt Gen Chakravarty took over as DG NCC on December 1, 2013. He is an alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun and National Defence Academy (NDA). Commissioned into the Rajput Regiment in December 1976, Lt Gen Chakravarty is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the National Defence College. During his illustrious career, he has held several important Staff and Command appointments. Lt Gen Chakravarty has also served as Chief of Operations and Contingent Commander of United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFL). He was also instrumental in preparation and implementation of the AV Singh Committee report.
