The shopping spirit went full on as the city celebrated Dhanteras on Tuesday, a precursor to grand Diwali. The markets witnessed a sudden boom complimenting the undertone of Dhanteras which calls for some auspicious buying.

Dhanteras marks the beginning of Diwali and is popularly celebrated by all households by purchasing valuables, especially gold jewellery. The Sarafa Market has thus geared up for a day of frantic business on Dhanteras. It should be noted that bookings have already been made here, while delivery has been scheduled for Tuesday.

As per the recent year trends, the city witnesses the sale of 200-250 cars and 600-700 two-wheelers on the day. While mobile phones are expected to sell like hot cakes on the occasion, no considerable rise has been observed in the prices of precious metals.

Secretary of gold-silver Itwari Association Rajesh Kataria said that the younger segment of the crowd is more inclined towards online shopping these days, which would also reflect on Dhanteras. Pankaj Bakhai informed about the interest of customers in silver items recently, and thus expects silver to do good business in the coming days. Purshottam Kavle claimed that age is no bar when it comes to jewelry shopping, which can be seen in the form of people from all age groups crowding up in jewelry stores.
