Nagpur: A devastating fire completely destroyed a waste paper godown and four loaded trucks parked nearby causing loss in lakhs. However, no loss of life was reported in the fire.

The fire broke out in the waste paper godown situated at Mahalgaon Kapsi on Bhandara Road at about 5 in the morning on Tuesday. Soon the entire godown got engulfed by the fire. High flames and thick black smoke billowing from it could be seen from far away distance. Vehicular traffic came to standstill on the road. Nearby people and the drivers of passing vehicles stopped at the spot and watched the godown being reduced to ashes. The fire took the monstrous shape when the paper-laden four trucks parked near the godown caught fire following intense heat. The blaze was brought under control by eight fire tenders that were dispatched at the spot.

According to Fire Brigade, the waste paper godown of Shri Balaji Trade Link, owned by Nilesh Lakhotiya, caught fire at about 5 in the morning. The watchman of the godown first noticed the fire. On being informed, eight fire tenders were dispatched and after a hard struggle the blaze was brought under control but not before gutting the four trucks parked near the godown. It took six hours for Fire Brigade to douse the fire. Apart from waste paper, the godown had plastic scrap in large quantity. The fire spread quickly and reduced the godown and trucks to ashes. Luckily, no labour or other people were present in the godown mainly due to wee hours of the day.

The cause of the fire is being ascertained by Fire Brigade personnel. The devastating fire has caused loss to the property in lakhs. However, no loss of life has been reported so far.
