Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce appreciates the demand made by Vilasrao Muttemwar, MP demanding shifting of Maharashtra Capital from Mumbai to Nagpur for 50 years, in the Parliament is a welcome step.
Looking to overcrowded and civic infrastructure in Mumbai is under tremendous strain. The shifting of capital will be in accordance with decentralization policy of Union Government. Shifting capital to Nagpur will bring the people of Vidarbha closure to the capital and the problems will be solved in a better way.
Before and after partition, it was of old Central Provinces and Berar and Madhya Pradesh with capital Nagpur. When Maharashtra was formed, people of Vidarbha were pushed back politically, economically, educationally and socially. People of Vidarbha, irrespective of caste and creed, have been demanding Vidarbha State since last 62 years. On the other hand, Nagpur and Vidarbha were underdeveloped. Thus changing the capital would serve the dual purpose of decongesting Mumbai and developing Vidarbha.
