Nagpur: The blast near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station has triggered nationwide concern, prompting the Union Home Ministry to hand over the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Senior IPS officer Vijay Sakhare has been appointed to lead the probe.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Sakhare, a Maharashtra-cadre IPS officer currently serving as Additional Director General (ADG) in the NIA, will now oversee the entire investigation.

For the Delhi blast case, the NIA has formed a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising an IG, two DIGs, three SPs and other DSP-rank officers. The team has already reached Delhi and begun collecting forensic evidence and conducting technical analysis around the blast site.
Sources say investigators are examining possible conspiracy angles, operational modules and interstate links behind the incident. The Home Ministry has classified the case as a matter of national security and directed close monitoring of every development.
