Dacoity plans foiled by cops in Tehsil, Mankapur, six men arrested

Nagpur: Two dacoity plans were foiled by cops in Tehsil and Mankapur jurisdictions on Thursday night. Six members of two gangs have been arrested and lethal arms seized from them. However, four other members managed to escape the police net and are now subject of a hunt.

In the first case, the Crime Branch API Gokul Nagorao Suryavanshi (30) along with his team was on patrol duty around 9.30 pm on Thursday. The team received a tip-off that a gang of five suspicious persons had assembled at a ground near Hazrat Baba Sayyed Baghdadi Dargah, Guard Line with the intention of committing dacoity. Acting on the information, the police team rushed to the spot and surrounded the gang. Noticing the cops, the gang members started fleeing the spot but were chased by the raiding cops. The chase resulted in nabbing three of the members. The arrested accused have been identified as Abhay Dhanraj Deshpande (25), Baban Rajaram Manodiya (26), both residents of Punjabi Line, Motibagh, and Pintu Raj Sahare (22), native of Raipur. Two other members Bharat Patiram Ghatta of Umred and Subhash managed to escape the police net in the cover of darkness and are being hunted. Upon frisking, cops recovered knives, swords, sticks, and other material from possession of arrested accused.

Tehsil PSI Dhakulkar has booked the arrested gang members under Section 399 of the IPC read with Sub-Section 4+25 of Arms Act and Sub-Section 135 of Mumbai Police Act.

In another incident, Mankapur API Laxman Kavduji Hande received a phone call informing him that five persons had gathered at a vacant plot behind Shabana Bakery, Kohale Layout, Godhni Road. The API Hande and his team immediately reached the spot and laid a trap to apprehend the five suspicious persons. Spotting the approaching cops, the five persons started running but were chased by the policemen. Cops succeeded in nabbing three of the persons but two others managed to give a slip to the police. The three arrested members of the gang have been identified as Nikhil Sudhakar Chinchkhede (25), Arvind Lahulal Hatagade (35) and Rajik Sheikh Gaffar Sheikh (23), all residents of Gittikhadan. The two members who escaped are Badal Madavi of Byramji Town and his unidentified accomplice. Lethal arms including large knives, iron rods, chili powder, nylon rope and a Dio moped (MH-31/EH 7211) have been seized from the arrested accused.

The API Hande has booked the arrested gang members under Section 399 of the IPC read with Sub-Section 4+25 of Arms Act and Sub-Section 135 of Mumbai Police Act.
