Nagpur: In a significant administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening policing and streamlining departmental functioning, the Nagpur City Police Commissionerate has reassigned key responsibilities among senior officers. The changes have resulted in new leadership for the Crime Branch, Traffic Department, and regional police divisions.
Under the latest orders, Additional Commissioner of Police (Addl CP) Rajendra Dabhade has been entrusted with the charge of the prestigious Crime Branch, one of the most crucial wings of the city police responsible for investigating serious crimes, organized criminal activities, cyber offences, and high-profile cases.
Dabhade, who was previously overseeing the North Region, will now head the Crime Branch, bringing his administrative and field experience to the department. His appointment is being viewed as an important move, especially at a time when the city police are dealing with challenges ranging from organized crime to cyber fraud and emerging criminal networks.
In another key change, Addl CP Vasant Pardeshi has been relieved of his responsibilities as head of the Crime Branch and has been assigned charge of the North Region. Pardeshi’s transfer from the Crime Branch has generated considerable discussion within police circles, with many officials reportedly surprised by the move.
Sources within the department indicated that while changes in regional assignments were anticipated, the decision to shift Pardeshi from the Crime Branch came unexpectedly and has become a major talking point among officers.
Meanwhile, Addl CP Vinita Sahu has been given charge of the South Region, a position that had remained vacant following the transfer of Addl CP Shivajirao Rathod. According to sources, there had been speculation for some time that Sahu would be assigned the South Region, and the latest orders have formalized that arrangement.
The reshuffle has also brought a significant change in the city’s traffic management setup. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aditya Mirkhelkar has been appointed as the in-charge of the Traffic Branch of Nagpur City Police.
The Traffic Branch plays a critical role in managing vehicular movement, enforcing road safety regulations, handling congestion issues, and implementing traffic reforms in one of Maharashtra’s fastest-growing urban centres. Mirkhelkar’s appointment comes at a time when Nagpur is witnessing increasing traffic volume and growing concerns over road safety and traffic discipline.
Police sources said the latest reshuffle is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and ensure effective leadership across key divisions. The changes are expected to have a direct impact on crime investigation, regional policing, and traffic management in the city.
With experienced officers now taking charge of some of the most important wings of the Nagpur Police, expectations are high that the reorganization will further strengthen law enforcement and public service delivery across the city.
