Cyber crook pilfers Rs 1 lakh from woman’s bank account in Bajaj Nagar

Nagpur: In yet another cyber crime, a crook pilfered Rs 1 lakh from the bank account of a middle aged woman in Bajaj Nagar police area on Monday, December 13.

The victim, Anu Sandeep Pillai (53), resident of Plot No. 402, near Water Tank, Laxmi Nagar, received an excess bill of her Credit Card. Subsequently, Anu phoned Customer Care and complained about the excess bill. However, the mobile holder trickster sent a link to her and asked her to click the link. The crook also asked Anu to inform him about the OTP number she received. The moment Anu shared the OTP number, the trickster withdrew Rs 1 lakh from the bank account of unsuspecting Anu Pillai. When she came to know about the cheating, she registered a case with Bajaj Nagar police.

PSI Lakhankar, acting on Anu Pillai’s complaint, booked the unidentified cyber criminal under Section 420 of the IPC read with Section 66(D) of Information Technology Act and launched a search for him.

According to reports, a number of financial frauds are being reported in Nagpur and other parts of India. The online thugs dupe vulnerable people by one trick or another. Cops have been regularly issuing various advisories to warn people against these online cheats who are on the prowl on the vulnerable lot, but still a large number of people are being duped by the online fraudsters almost every day.
