Crime branch team busts on-line cricket betting racket, arrests two bookies

Nagpur: UNIT-III of Crime Branch claimed to have busted an online cricket betting racket with the arrest of two bookies from Ganeshpeth area on Wednesday. Cops seized cash, a television set, a laptop, nine cellphones , set top box, and a router collectively worth Rs 1.24 lakh from their possession.

Identified as Amjad Khan Nawab Khan Pathan (42) and Irfan Ahmed Riyaz Ahmed (32), the accused are the residents of Bhaldarpura, Ganeshpeth. The accused duo were allegedly involved in the online betting on England versus New Zealand T20 World Cup Cricket Match which took place on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off about betting for the ongoing T20 cricket matches from a house at Bhaldarpura, a team of Unit-III of Crime Branch raided the premises and arrested the two bookies. Cops registered an offence under Sections 4 and 5 of the Gambling Act against Amjad Khan and Irfan Ahmed at Ganeshpeth Police Station
