Nagpur: In a cracking success, Crime Branch of Nagpur Police on Wednesday busted a gang of cyber crime perpetrators and arrested its three members in early morning swoop on a lodge in city. The arrested gang members were on a robbing spree targeting banks accounts through cyber crime. However, the mastermind and other members of the gang are still at large and being hunted by cops.
According to details, the Crime Branch PI C P Dhole and PI Bajirao Powar, around 11.30 pm on Tuesday, received information from Yavatmal police that in a dubious transaction, Rs 49 lakh were withdrawn from Bank of India account of complainant Priyank Chandrashekhar Deshmukh (30), who runs Macwheels Motors Pvt Ltd Company on Arni Road, Yavatmal. The cops received further information that accused gang members Krushnakumar Drupdeo Mishra (28), Raja Manjeet Bhattacharya (25) and Santoshkumar Parasnath Yadav (34), all residents of Kolkata, prepared bogus Simcard in the name of Priyank and transferred Rs 49 lakh from his BoI account through Net Banking to their own accounts in ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank. After transferring the huge amount, the three gang members withdrew cash of Rs 1.80 lakh and purchased gold jewellery worth Rs 4.80 lakh by using their own Debit Cards.
Armed with the information, the Crime Branch sleuths started investigation into the matter for further leads. The Information Technology Investigation Cell of city police tracked the whereabouts of the accused and found that the gang members were hiding in city only. Subsequently, a team of policemen led by PIs C P Dhole and Bajirao Powar swooped on lodges and hotels situated on C A Road and nearby premises. During the raid, the three gang members Krushnakumar Drupdeo Mishra, Raja Manjeet Bhattacharya and Santoshkumar Parasnath Yadav were nabbed from one of the hotels.
The arrested accused were handed over to Yavatmal police who have booked them under various sections of IPC and IT Act. However, the wanted mastermind of the gang and other members are still at large and being hunted by cops.
The operation was undertaken under the guidance of DCP Sharma, ACP Nilesh Raut by a team of sleuths from Crime Branch.
