Nagpur: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Nagpur Crime Branch’s NDPS Cell arrested three accused and seized MD (Mephedrone) drugs, deadly weapons, and suspected stolen gold and silver jewellery worth nearly ₹16 lakh.
According to police, the action was carried out in the Gittikhadan area after officers received information about suspicious individuals moving around near Dawood Pan Centre in Vishwas Nagar. Acting swiftly, the Crime Branch team laid a trap and detained three suspects.
During the search, police recovered 16 grams of MD drugs from the accused. Officers also seized a sword and a sattoor (chopper), raising concerns over possible criminal activities linked to the group.

Further investigation led police to conduct searches at the residences of the accused, where they recovered 88.200 grams of gold jewellery and 876.800 grams of silver ornaments. The seized valuables are estimated to be worth around ₹16 lakh, and police suspect they may be linked to theft cases.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
- Akash Raju Hatagde (Vishwas Nagar, Gittikhadan)
- Yogesh Sanju Siriya (Gawlipura, Sadar)
- Akash Gajanan Tale (Manav Seva Nagar)
Police said all three have previous criminal records involving serious offences.
During the investigation, the name of another suspected drug supplier, Akash Kataria alias “Akku,” surfaced. He is currently absconding, and special teams have been deployed to trace and arrest him.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Akash Hatagde allegedly procured the MD drugs from Yogesh Siriya, who in turn is believed to have sourced them from the absconding accused Akku. Police are now investigating the wider drug supply network operating in the city.
A case has been registered at Gittikhadan Police Station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and Maharashtra Police Act. Further investigation is underway.
Police officials said the operation has dealt a significant blow to illegal drug trafficking in Nagpur and reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying action against narcotics, illegal weapons, and organised crime in the city.
