Nagpur: The Detection Squad of DCP Zone 4 busted a cricket betting racket and arrested two bookies in Narsala area here on Sunday. The cops have also seized related material worth Rs 1.24 lakh.
Acting on specific information, a team of Detection Squad, led by API K V Chougule, raided a duplex house in Chimurkar Layout No. 1, Narsala, at about 4.45 pm on Sunday. The raiding cops found the two accused Nikhil Purshottam Khapre (26) of Mahal and Noor Ahmed Iqbal Bhai Bandukiya (27) of Maskasath, Itwari, accepting bets over Australia-South Africa One Day International being played in South Africa. The accused were also found feeding the audio live to other bookies through mobile phones.
The cops immediately booked the two accused bookies under Sections 4, 5 of Mumbai Gambling (Prevention) Act and placed them under arrest. 12 mobile phones, one TV set, Set Top Box, and a Pulsar bike collectively worth Rs 1.24 lakh were seized from the possession of arrested accused.
The raid was carried by a team of cops comprising API K V Chougule, API Dabhade, constable Ganeshsingh Parihar, Naik Police Constables Rameshwar Kadav, Sachin Tumsare, Sepoy Vaibhav under the directives of DCP G Shridhar and ACP Shirish Rathod (Ajni Division).
