The police circles in the city were jolted to the core when the Commissioner of Police K K Pathak cracked the whip and suspended five careless Detection Branch (DB) Squad policemen attached to Jaripatka Police Station with immediate effect.
The suspended policemen are constables Rafiq Khan, Rajesh Barne, Pankaj Mishra, Bhaskar Rokde and Dharmendra Wahane. The suspended policemen had displayed their utterly careless attitude when they took the murderous assault on a 25-year old youth Rupesh alias Pappu Kale, resident of Indira Nagar in Jaripatka, very casually and lightly. Interestingly, the rattled Jaripatka Police Station policemen have been hesitating in giving any information about the suspension of the five cops.
It may be recalled, the youth Rupesh was brutally attacked by accused Kunal Goswami (24), Bittu (22), Shekhar (25) and their four accomplices on Makar Sankranti (January 14). The Jaripatka DB Squad had detained Kunal and Bittu at about 11 am the next day of the incident. However, the DB personnel, instead of arresting Kunal and Bittu, handed them over to a Sepoy and went out for their other work. On the same night, the Jaripatka policemen, taking the murderous assault lightly, let both the accused go scot-free. Rupesh, too, could not sustain the brutal attack and died on Thursday (January 16) night. When the top officials came to know that the accused had been set free, they initiated an investigation into the matter. The investigation revealed utter careless and negligent actions by the concerned policemen that resulted in suspension of five DB Squad policemen by the Commissioner of Police K K Pathak.
According to sources, Jaripatka Police Station is getting infamous for massive irregularities. The burglary, robbery and other crime accused are being set free even after detection of crimes by indulging in “large scale illegal dealings.” The sources further said that the seized booty is being shared by the policemen themselves and let the accused go scot-free. These disturbing episodes should also be investigated by the higher officials, sources said after talking to some citizens.
