
Nagpur: Nagpur’s Kalamna Police have busted a suspected cattle theft gang that allegedly used passenger vehicles to carry out thefts across the city. Police arrested one accused and recovered a stolen cow along with two cars allegedly used in the crime, seizing property collectively worth around Rs 14.5 lakh.
Police are now searching for other absconding members of the gang and investigating their possible involvement in similar theft cases reported across the city.
According to police, incidents of cattle theft had been repeatedly reported from different parts of Nagpur in recent weeks. The breakthrough came after complainant Anand Khattar, a resident of Tulsi Nagar, approached Kalamna Police Station stating that his three-year-old white cow had mysteriously gone missing.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and began scanning CCTV footage from multiple locations across the city. During the probe, officers spotted two unidentified men transporting the stolen cow in a passenger vehicle before fleeing the area.
Acting on confidential information, police detained Sohel Ali Kadar Ali alias Billa, a resident of Kapil Nagar. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to committing the theft along with his associate Abhijit alias Kali Thakur.
Based on the accused’s disclosure, police recovered the stolen cow and seized two four-wheelers allegedly used to execute the theft. Officials said the total value of the recovered property is estimated at approximately Rs 14.5 lakh.
Police said efforts are underway to trace the absconding accused and determine whether the gang was involved in other cattle theft incidents in Nagpur. Further investigation is in progress.
