Court asks Rathi to deposit Rs 1.17 Cr to Maha GenCo’s account

Nagpur: Hearing the interim bail application of Pankaj Rathi, the industrialist and promoter of Nihar Steel Pvt Ltd who is accused of cheating the Maha GenCo of Rs 2.27 crore in the name of supplying iron ore, the District Sessions Court of Justice A S Qazi on Thursday granted conditional bail on a PR Bond of Rs 1 lakh and directed him to deposit Rs 1.17 crore to Maha GenCo’s account.

As per the court’s order, Rathi has been directed to deposit Rs 1.17 crore to the account of Maha GenCo within 45 days under the supervision of the investigating officer. The remaining amount will be in Rathi’s account that was freezed.

The court directed the accused to be present at Dhantoli police station on every Sunday between 10 am and 2 pm. Rathi has also been directed to not leave Nagpur without prior permission and also not try to influence the witnesses in the case.

Rathi was also asked to give in writing that he would not withdraw money from his account and that he would present during all the hearing till the filing of the chargesheet.

The police investigation into the case had revealed that Rathi had stolen 22 cheque leaves from Assistant Engineer of Maha GenCo after offering him drinks.
