Nagpur: Hudkeshwar Police in Nagpur have successfully recovered a bag containing jewellery valued at Rs 7.80 lakh, which was accidentally left behind by a Bangalore resident during his journey in an auto-rickshaw. The bag belonged to Siddharth Dabhade, an officer at BHEL in Bengaluru. The police traced the bag to the auto-rickshaw driver’s house and returned it to its owner.
According to the police, Siddharth, a resident of Pratap Nagar, had come to Nagpur to attend a family function. On August 5, Siddharth, his wife, and their daughter took an auto-rickshaw from Pratap Nagar to Subhedar Layout. They had four bags with them, but one bag was left behind in the auto. It was only after arriving at their relative’s house that they realized the bag was missing.
At 8 pm, they reported the incident to the Hudkeshwar Police Station. PI Gyaneshwar Bhedodkar immediately pressed the police machinery into action. The police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and identified the auto-rickshaw (MH-49/CF2653). They tracked down the owner, Kailash Kharate (33), a resident of Jaitala. The police reached Kailash’s house and inquired about the bag. Kailash informed them that he had found the bag in the back seat of his auto upon returning home and was waiting for the passengers to contact him. He had not opened the bag.
Hudkeshwar cops brought Kailash and the bag to the station. In the presence of Siddharth and his wife, the bag was opened, revealing 111 grams of gold and 53 grams of silver jewellery. Siddharth confirmed that the jewellery and other items were intact. The bag and its contents were then handed over to them.
This swift action was carried out by PI Gyaneshwar Bhedodkar, PSI Mahesh Pandey, and staff members Manoj Neware, Dinesh Gadekar, Chetan Vaidya, Santosh Sontakke, Sandeep Patil, Vijay Sinha, and Ganesh Madavi.
