Nagpur: The city police while taking the concept of zero-tolerance to crime seriously have started tightening its noose on the goons finally. In the last 3 days, the cops had slapped MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act) against many goons of the city. After getting approval and permission from the Additional Commissioner of Police (Nagpur), the cops have now slapped MCOCA on the six accused involved in the sensational kidnapping case where the goons had kidnapped 14-year-old Chaitanya Ashtankar in broad day light.

While addressing the media personnel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-1) Shailesh Balkawde said that they have taken time to slap MCOCA on these goons involved in kidnapping of 14-year-old Chaitanya Ashtankar. He said that they had studied in detail all such cases where MCOCA could be slapped on goons; they found a case which was similar from Pune and Mumbai. DCP Balkawde said that they have applied for permission to slap MCOCA on these goons too. Once the court approves it, this will become a case file and many more goons involved in such cases will be booked under MCOCA.

After detailed investigations, the Sonegaon Police have managed to arrest five of the six accused involved in the kidnapping case. The main gang leader identified as Mukesh Tailwade is still absconding. DCP Balkawde said that adhering to the process laid down for slapping MCOCA, they had asked Additional Commissioner of Police for permissions. They will have to quote if this will be tenable or not and once the Additional Commissioner of Police approves, they slap MCOCA.

According to DCP Balkawde, many serious crimes are registered against three of the six accused. The main accused Mukesh Taiwade is said to be a professional criminal and known offender.

Aiding and abetting to be brought under MCOCA

According to DCP Balkawde, all those who aid and abet in commission of crime will henceforth be liable to be booked under MCOCA. In this case, the person who had rented his house to the criminals for criminal activities and all those who had knowledge of the crime and had not reported the crime to the police are considered liable for being booked under MCOCA.

The accused are identified as under:

  1. Mukesh Taiwade age 26 years and resident of Khapa. (Mastermind / Main accused who is still absconding)
  2. Ishaq Sheikh Israel aged 36 years and resident of Khapa.
  3. Durwas Bhagwan Kohad aged 28 years and a resident of Khapa. (House owner who had rented out his house.
  4. Taiyun Shamsher Sheikh aged 28 years and a resident of Khapa
  5. Pradeep Omdas Ninawe aged 36 years and a resident of Khapa. (He was the one who had planned the operation)
  6. Prabhakar Khobragade aged 40 years and a resident of Khapa.
