Cops seize 2000 kgs of beef in Jaripatka

Nagpur: A special squad set up by DCP Zone 5 Harsh Poddar on Sunday intercepted a vehicle and seized around 2000 kgs of suspected beef in Jaripatka police jurisdiction.

The special squad received a tip off that some people would be transporting a huge quantity of beef in Tata Sumo Super Pick Up van from Kamgar Nagar Square to Sharda Company Square. Accordingly, the cops kept a watch on the route and intercepted the suspected vehicle (MH-49/D 6421). On being checked, cops found beef weighing around 2000 kgs (2 tonnes). The vehicle driver identified as Sheikh Farooq Shammu (19), resident of Rai Ashiyana, near Motibagh Railway Crossing, and his accomplice Eizaj (21), resident of Ansar Nagar, Mominpura, managed to flee the spot. Cops have seized the beef and the vehicle.

Cops have booked the accused under Maharashtra Animals Preservation Act and investigating the matter further.

The seizer was made by PSIs Vinod Ghanghde, Madhav Shinde, other police personnel Rajkumar Janbandhu, Mahesh Bawne, Pankaj Landge, Suraj Bharti, Pramod Wagh, Vinod Sontakki, Dinesh Yadav, Prabhakar Mankar, Ravindra Raut, Mrudul Nagre and Ashok under the guidance of DCP Harsh Poddar.
