Nagpur: In a major crackdown on human trafficking and organised flesh trade, the Nagpur City Police intensified its ongoing “Operation Shakti” campaign and busted an alleged prostitution racket operating from a hotel in the Ganeshpeth area during a late-night raid.
The special drive, launched under the vision of the Nagpur Police Commissioner, aims to dismantle networks involved in human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation across the city. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officials from the Crime Branch’s Social Security Department carried out a combing operation and raided a hotel suspected of being used for illegal activities.
According to police, the raid was conducted between 7:59 pm on May 6 and 2:59 am on May 7 at OYO Flagship Krishna Hotel located opposite the ST Bus Stand in Ganeshpeth Police Station limits.
During the operation, police allegedly found that a man identified only as “Raj” was arranging customers and providing hotel rooms for prostitution in exchange for money. Investigators suspect that the accused was operating the illegal racket through online contacts and mobile communication.
Police said women were allegedly being forced into commercial sexual exploitation at the premises for financial gain.
During the raid, police rescued one woman from the spot and seized cash amounting to Rs 3,500, a mobile phone and other material collectively valued at around Rs 6,730.
Following the operation, Ganeshpeth Police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
Police officials said the main accused, identified as Raj, along with the holder of the mobile number used on the website for contacting customers, is currently absconding. Multiple teams have been formed to trace and arrest those involved in the racket.
Officials stated that “Operation Shakti” will continue across Nagpur city with intensified action against human trafficking syndicates, prostitution rackets and those exploiting vulnerable women for illegal profits.
