Nagpur: Police have busted a notorious racket selling adulterated petrol and diesel at a petrol pump at Bhandara road on Sunday. While the owner of the petrol pump is absconded, police have nabbed the manager of petrol pump and four other accused in the case. The petrol pump was also sealed by cops. The accused are identified as Rajesh Patil (42), Sangeet Waghmare (50), Bhalchandra Thembare (34), and Raju Parihar (36).

According to sources, the cops have received secret information about the nefarious activity taking place an Indian Oil petrol pump run by Pachpaoli residents Jaginder Pal and Harminder Pal. After digging out all information, cops unearthed the theft and tampering of fuel-dispensing machines on Sunday. After days of carrying secret surveillance around the petrol pump, police found out that as many as two tankers carrying solvent stopped by the petrol pump and accused were diluting solvents in the petrol and diesel tanks. This activity was carried late at night after the closing of the petrol pump. Under the leadership of DCP Avinash Kumar, the cops have busted the racket red-handed.

According to sources, the two tankers were carrying around 8500 liter solvents and 8000 liters of diesel. After police informed the officials of Indian Oil, the authorities came to the petrol pump and seizes petrol stock, tankers and other equipment worth ` 21 lakh.

On the day of the raid, the stock register showed 8,993 litre petrol and sale as 757 litre. When police checked the tank, they found an excess of 113.92 litre. The raid team found discrepancies in diesel stock too. Though the stock showed 9,411 litre and sale was 1,049 litre, there was an additional 9,171.16 litre diesel in the machine. The petrol pump was also found to have violated fire safety standards. An Indian Oil spokesperson said that fuel samples had been sent for testing.

Following the raid of Bhandara petrol pump, the cops taking a serious note of complaints against petrol pumps situated on Hingna Road in Hingna Tehsil which are delivering less quantity and adulterated petrol and diesel to consumers, the concerned authorities carried out an inspection of these petrol pumps and inspected all the machines.

The authorities warned of stringent actions if a petrol pump or a company or other traders cheat consumers by delivering less amount of goods or adulterated stuff. They said they have information that traders in weekly markets deceive the customers and warned of sever action against them also. The authorities sought cooperation from citizens in curbing the cheating methods of traders as the department lacks sufficient employees who cannot attend every complaint to give justice to the customers.

DCP Avinash Kumar said that they will inspect all the petrol pumps from time to time if they receive complaints from customers. In future, too, they would inspect petrol pumps or for that matter other shops and companies if a written complaint is lodged with them by any person. According to sources, the solvent was being transported to an industrial town in UP where it was suppose to be used. The accused in the adulteration case had tied up with the transporters who use to provide solvents to the respective petrol pump.
