From 1992 onwards, the face of crime changed dramatically. On one hand casteist elements and on the other hand criminal gangs posed grave challenges to the city police force. A few years later, the local criminals ‘flourished’ in other illegal businesses. In the 2004, land mafia got active. Crime against womenfolk jumped by leaps and bounds. The city police force also faced challenges on another front – smuggling of lethal weapons, narcotics, terror acts by Naxals and SIMI. Hi tech and cyber crimes also gripped the city, menacingly.
