Nagpur: In a significant breakthrough, the Nagpur Crime Branch’s Anti-Burglary Squad has cracked a house-breaking case in Surendra Nagar and recovered gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 4,79,990. One 19-year-old accused has been arrested, while a juvenile allegedly involved in the crime has also been apprehended.

The burglary took place between October 22 and 26 at Plot No. 4, Surendra Nagar, near the State Bank of India, under the jurisdiction of Bajaj Nagar Police Station. The complainant, Dr Atul Keshavrao Kapse (40), had locked his house and travelled to Bhubaneswar in Odisha with his family.

Taking advantage of the family’s absence, unidentified burglars allegedly broke the lock of the main door, entered the house and ransacked the bedroom. They broke open an iron cupboard and decamped with Rs 25,000 in cash, various gold and silver ornaments, a camera, a wristwatch and an Apple laptop charger. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at Rs 7.16 lakh.

Following Dr Kapse’s complaint, Bajaj Nagar Police registered a case against unidentified persons under Sections 305(a), 331(3) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

While Bajaj Nagar Police pursued the investigation, the Crime Branch’s Anti-Burglary Squad conducted a parallel probe. Acting on technical evidence and specific intelligence, the squad identified the suspects and detained a juvenile allegedly involved in the burglary.

During questioning, the juvenile reportedly admitted to committing the crime along with his associate, identified as Karan Khemchand Meshram (19), a resident of Galli No. 8, near Takshashila Buddha Vihar, Lashkaribagh, under Pachpaoli Police Station limits.

The police subsequently apprehended Meshram and recovered a substantial portion of the stolen valuables from the possession of the accused and the juvenile. The seizure included gold ornaments weighing 296.07 grams and silver ornaments weighing 624.93 grams, collectively valued at Rs 4,79,990.

The arrested accused and the juvenile, along with the seized property, were handed over to Bajaj Nagar Police for further legal action. Further investigation is underway.
