Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch has cracked the sensational murder case of a 40-year-old loan agent found brutally killed in Gittikhadan, arresting a dairy owner and his alleged accomplice for conspiring and executing the murder over suspected personal relations and prolonged marital discord.
The accused have been identified as Umang Chandrashekhar Dadwe (44), owner of Vasant Dairy in Ganeshpeth and resident near Pahadwale Mata Mandir, and Sandesh Bhosle (31), also a resident of Ganeshpeth. Both were arrested by the Crime Branch on Monday after an intensive investigation and technical surveillance operation.
The victim, Ajay Kishorilal Shriwas (40), a loan agent residing at Gorkhede Complex in Gittikhadan, was found murdered inside his rented flat between 3 pm and 3.30 pm on Saturday. Investigators said the killing was the outcome of deep-rooted domestic tension, suspicion and a meticulously planned conspiracy.
According to police, Dadwe suspected that his wife was in frequent contact with Shriwas, who was reportedly her childhood friend. During the investigation, police discovered that the woman and Shriwas had allegedly remained in touch for several years and used to speak regularly over the phone.
Crime Branch officials revealed that Dadwe had repeatedly objected to the conversations and had allegedly confronted both his wife and Shriwas over the issue as far back as 2018. However, matters worsened earlier this year when Dadwe allegedly found that his wife was secretly using two additional SIM cards.
Police said frequent quarrels erupted in the family over suspected relationships and mobile phone usage. During one heated argument, Dadwe allegedly snatched his wife’s phone and warned her against using mobile phones again.
Investigators believe the situation inside the family deteriorated rapidly after an incident during their son’s birthday celebration on April 29, 2026. Police claimed that Dadwe, allegedly known for his short temper, slapped his son during the function, triggering another major confrontation between husband and wife.
Soon after the incident, his wife left the house and shifted to her maternal home located nearby. A police complaint was also reportedly registered against Dadwe at Ganeshpeth Police Station.
Divorce notice allegedly became turning point
According to investigators, the relationship completely collapsed after Dadwe received a divorce notice from his wife. Police said he became mentally disturbed and allegedly started believing that his wife wanted to separate from him to continue her alleged relationship with Shriwas without restrictions.
Investigators suspect that this growing obsession and suspicion eventually led Dadwe to hatch a murder plot.
Police said Dadwe allegedly approached Sandesh Bhosle, following which the duo began planning Shriwas’s murder. Initially, they were unable to locate Shriwas’s residence. However, after learning about the death of Shriwas’s mother, the accused allegedly followed him from a crematorium to trace his rented flat in Gittikhadan.
Accused conducted recce before carrying out murder
Police revealed that after identifying the victim’s residence, the accused conducted recce of his daily movements at least three times using a Swift Dzire car owned by Bhosle.
On Saturday afternoon, the alleged conspiracy culminated in murder. According to police, Dadwe and Bhosle entered Shriwas’s flat and attacked him with a sharp weapon, killing him on the spot in a brutal assault.
Investigators said what shocked them further was the calm behaviour of the accused after committing the crime.
“After the murder, the accused returned home normally. Dadwe took a bath, ate food and later left for Paoni, where he owns a milk plant,” an investigating officer said.
Police said Dadwe later hid in a hotel believing he could evade arrest. However, acting on specific intelligence inputs and technical surveillance, Crime Branch teams tracked both accused and apprehended them on Monday.
Weapon hunt underway
Police are now working to recover the weapon used in the murder and collect further evidence related to the alleged conspiracy and movements of the accused before and after the crime.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP Detection Rahul Maknikar and ACP Dr Abhijeet Patil. The arrests were made by Crime Branch Unit-2 Senior Police Inspector Shubhangi Deshmukh and her team.
The sensational murder has triggered widespread discussion in the city, with investigators continuing to probe every aspect of the case, including the digital and communication records linked to the accused and the victim.
