Nagpur: Mauda Police intercepted a 12-wheeler truck on the Bhandara-Nagpur Highway and successfully rescued 22 cows during a proactive operation aimed at halting the inhumane and illegal transportation of cattle. Acting on intelligence regarding the unlawful transportation of cattle, the police set up a comprehensive blockade near the Rabadiwala point in Mauda.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that the truck was transporting 22 cows in distressing conditions. The animals were found to be subjected to cruel treatment, tied with ropes, and deprived of food and water. The truck driver, identified as Rahul, was allegedly en route to a slaughterhouse. Two individuals associated with the operation, Shishir Upal Dhamgai (30) and Navin Rajkumar Dakkhanwar (24), both from Gondia district, were promptly arrested.
Additionally, the truck, valued at Rs 13,30,000, was seized by the police. The rescued animals have been relocated to the Gorakshan Kendra Bhandara for proper care and attention. Under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Harssh Poddar and Additional SP Ramesh Dhumal, the police have registered an offense against the accused individuals.
