Nagpur: In a significant verdict, Additional Sessions Judge S A Shrikhande handed down a seven-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to Seema Premlal Chhadi (40), a resident of Ganga Jamuna, for her involvement in pushing a minor girl into prostitution and subjecting her to torture. The victim, a 14-year-old girl, was abducted by unidentified person(s) between June 15, 2010, and September 9, 2022, while playing in front of her house. She was then handed over to Seema, who exploited her in the flesh trade at a red light area and subjected her to abuse.
The victim, rescued from Seema’s residence in Ganga Jamuna, bravely informed the police about Seema’s activities, leading to the registration of a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Following an investigation led by Police Inspector Amita Jaipurkar, Seema was arrested on September 15, 2022, and subsequently charged. The court, after finding the charges against her to be proven, sentenced her to seven years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5000 for the offense under Section 370 of the IPC. Additionally, she was sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 500 for the offense under Section 344 of the IPC.
Representing the State, Additional Public Prosecutor Adv Sonali Raut played a pivotal role in the proceedings, while Adv S R Chakravarty served as the defense counsel.
