Cops bust drugs racket, arrest a woman peddler, kingpin absconding

Nagpur: Continuing their crack down on drug peddlers, the sleuths of Anti-Narcotics Cell of Crime Branch raided a godown in Chandrapur District and seized over 87 kg of ganja (marijuana) worth Rs 8.75 lakh. The cops have arrested a woman in this connection. However, the key accused has gone absconding and is being hunted.

The action followed lead provided by two arrested drug peddlers. The Crime Branch had on March 3 raided a hut in Ekta Colony Slums in Yashodhara Nagar area and seized 55 kg of ganja worth Rs 5.54 lakh. Two drug peddlers namely Mohd Rafiq Mohd Salim (50) and Firoze Khan alias Afsar Khan (38) were arrested by the raiding cops. Intense interrogation of the two accused led to Crime Branch sleuths getting major clues in the drug peddling. Thereafter on his information, second accused Firoze Khan, Yadav Nagar, as he had transported the contraband in his vehicle from Ballarshah to city. During interrogation of the accused duo, the cops got information about the storage of Ganja in a godown at Ballarshah. The godown belonged to one Kadir who supplies the contraband in the region. After discussing the information, the Anti-Narcotics Cell team left for Ballarshah and discussed details with local cops there. The Crime Branch team raided the godown located at village Isapur and found 87 kg of Ganja.

During the search the cops also found 20 to 30 air bags that were used for packing ganja and selling them to prospective buyers. The police arrested one woman, Khatija Bano Dawood Khan while the main accused Kadir Afsar Sayyed went absconding. The accused were booked under Sections 20C, 29 of NDPS Act 1985.

The Crime Branch team comprised of Assistant Police Inspector (API) Sachin Luley, Head Constable Dutta Bagul, Naik Police Constable (NPC) Satish Patil, Kishor Mahant, Tulsi Shukla and other staff. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ranjan Kumar Sharma and other senior officials supervised the investigations.
