A Commercial Sex Worker from the notorious red light area of the city Ganga Jamuna alleged that she was brutally thrashed by police-officers and police personnel from Lakhadganj Police Station till she became bloodied.
The sister of the victim alleged that police-officers and police personnel from Lakhadganj Police Station had brutally and violently thrashed Ratna (Name changed) till she was completely bloodied.
Ratna is undergoing treatment at Dr Somani’s Hospital.
Not seeing any way by which she could get justice, Ratna’s sister has sent written complaint to Secretary of Home Ministry (Maharashtra), Director General of Police, Chairman of Human Rights Commission, Commission for Women, Commissioner of Police, Cabinet Minister (Home), New Delhi.
Ratna’s sister has demanded that strict action should be initiated against all the police-officers and police personnel from Lakhadganj Police Station who had beaten-up her sister and that they should be punished.
It could be mentioned here that panic had spread in the notorious red light area of the city Ganga Jamuna on Thursday January 29, 2015 after the cops raided the premises, causing the sex workers to run helter skelter. The action was initiated after information of many gullible girls from various parts of the country are housed here. They are lured into flesh trade by anti-social elements. This has been going on for several years now and the police too have been sometimes a party to this exploitation.
A Pune-based NGO has rescued several minor girls from the clutches of pimps from this area. They were helped by the senior police officials in this endeavour. However, after the reins were taken over by Abhinash Kumar as deputy commissioner of police (zone 3), the red light area was on the target of the police. Only a few days back, a raid was conducted in the locality causing many sex workers to flee the area. This has created a curfew-like situation in Ganga Jamuna.
Notices have been put on several places restricting the sex workers from indulging in persuasion and from making gestures in public.
