Nagpur: A dramatic scene unfolded during the elections for the Standing Committee and other subject committee chairpersons of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Tuesday, adding political colour to the proceedings. Congress corporator Shailesh Pandey arrived at the venue dressed in a sanitation worker’s uniform. However, security personnel reportedly stopped him before he could enter the hall.
As all corporators gathered at Suresh Bhat Hall to take part in the election process, Pandey adopted this symbolic gesture to draw attention to civic issues. His unusual appearance sparked discussion and curiosity in the area for some time.
According to reliable sources, Pandey earlier swept roads in Ward No. 11 to highlight concerns over poor sanitation. He alleged that irregular cleaning in the area has caused inconvenience to residents. Accumulated garbage, unhygienic streets, and administrative neglect were among the issues he sought to spotlight through his attire.
“Our objective is to ensure that the administration takes the issue of cleanliness seriously,” Pandey said.
His move has created a stir in NMC politics, and it is expected to reignite debate between the ruling party and the opposition over the city’s sanitation management.
