Demanding early solution to farmers’ issues; total exemption of debt-burden on farmers
Nagpur: On the second day of Winter Session of Maharashtra State Legislature the Congress-NCP led morcha staged demonstration at the door-steps of Legislature, demanding early solution of problems of farmers, and total exemption of debt-burden on farmers. The remaining supporters of morcha congregated in a large number outside the Vidhan Bhavan and shouted slogans against the government.
When the Session began on Monday, the Opposition showed its patience, but a volcano of its protest erupted on Tuesday demanding from the state government early solution to the farmers’ issues of various types. In a sort of ‘halla-bol’ attempt the Opposition voiced at high pitch that ‘total exemption of debts is the only remedy to check suicides by farmers.’
As soon as the house began functioning today morning, Congress-NCP MLAs/ MLCs squatted at the door-steps of Vidhan Bhavan and staged demonstration shouting slogans against government and thereafter they forced their entry into the House and started shouting slogans in from of the Speaker’s well.
The agitators emphasizing their demands wanted that the government must provide total debts-exemption to farmers and a package for them in order to check their suicides.
It may be mentioned that CM Devendra Fadnavis had earlier said that the ‘debts exemption’ is not only the option for farmers to check their suicide. The Opposition snatched this point from CM’s statement and emphasized that the ‘debts exemption’ was the only options to save farmers committing suicides.
The agitators included leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Radhankrishna Vikhe Patil, leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Dhananjay Mude, former CM Prithviraj Chavan, former MPCC president Manikrao Thakre, Ajit Pawar, Chhagan Bhujbal and other leaders.
On the first day of the session, Shiv Sena and BJP were facing each other on the demand of separate Vidarbha. Today’s agitation was followed by ‘Santara Fek’ (throw orange) agitation staged by Cong-NCP. The agitators were holding placards–“BJP sarkar mein gadbad jhala hai; sarkar ki daal mein kuchh kala hai” and repeated comprehensive exemption of debts in respect of farmers.
