Nagpur: A con couple systematically defrauded UCO Bank to the tune of Rs 18 lakh by procuring loan for purchasing a flat dubiously. The accused couple reportedly procured loans fraudulently from four other nationalised banks by submitting the same sale deed.

The accused couple, Rakesh Shankar Raut and Lalita Rakesh Raut, both residents of Ramkrishna Nagar, Nandanvan, between October 2015 and October 2017, approached the Gandhibagh Branch of UCO Bank and submitted a loan application for purchasing a flat in Gajanan Apartment, Mhalginagar. For the loan, the accused couple submitted a Sale Deed No. S-3614 to the bank and procured a loan of Rs 18 lakh.

However, the UCO Bank later came to know that the accused Raut couple had already taken loans from Bank of Maharashtra, Sahakar Nagar, Punjab national Bank, Surya Nagar, Kalamna, Indian Overseas Bank, Hudkeshwar and State Bank of India, Kingsway Road by submitting the same sale deed fraudulently. This way the con couple cheated the UCO Bank of Rs 18 lakh.

Tehsil police constable Ravindra has booked the accused Raut couple under Sections 420, 468, 471, 34 of the IPC and started investigations.
