Nagpur: Commuters entering and exiting Nagpur Railway Station through its west gate are facing daily hardship due to recurring waterlogging, even in the absence of rainfall. The situation has emerged amid the ongoing station redevelopment work, which passengers allege has turned a key access point into a persistent problem zone.
According to sources, wastewater generated at the construction site is allegedly being released onto the adjoining road instead of being channelled into designated drainage chambers. This has resulted in frequent accumulation of water outside the station premises, leaving the stretch muddy, slippery, and unsafe for both pedestrians and motorists.
The west gate, one of the busiest entry points of the station, witnesses heavy footfall throughout the day. Passengers have complained of unhygienic conditions, traffic congestion, and a constant risk of slipping, particularly during peak hours when the movement of travellers, auto-rickshaws, and private vehicles increases.
Several commuters pointed out that the problem has been brought to the notice of railway and local authorities multiple times. While officials have reportedly warned the contractors and workers responsible, passengers allege that the lack of strict enforcement has allowed the issue to persist.
With redevelopment work still underway, commuters have urged the authorities to ensure proper wastewater management and effective drainage arrangements. They stressed that unless immediate corrective steps are taken, the inconvenience and safety risks at one of the city’s busiest transport hubs will continue unabated.
