Nagpur: Holi is just around the corner and the Orange City is gearing up to celebrate the colourful festival with great vigour. This year, the festival of colours called Holi as well as Dhulivandan would be celebrated on Friday, March 2.

Markets would soon be flooded with heaps of gulal in vibrant colours. Arranged in pyramids and sold loose, the vendors would occupy roadside vintage points across the city and do brisk business. Gulal is made up of many vibrant colors like pink, magenta, red, yellow and green.

A number of families in Prabhag No. 26 are in the business of preparing a variety of colours. Apart from the families, city-based colour manufacturers are working round the clock to meet the demand. Since people are now aware about the toxic elements contained in regular colours, the demand for ‘natural’ gulal is at its peak. ‘Abeer’ is made of small crystals or paper like chips of mica. This is usually mixed with the gulal to give it a rich shine. These colors can be used dry, or mixed with water. The Holi revellers prefer eco-friendly and herbal colours.
