Colleges protest RTMNU’s U-Turn of fee hike

Nagpur: Upset over cancellation of fee hike by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), college managements on Friday stormed the campus of RTMNU on Amravati Road and staged a protest by raising slogans demanding restoration of the fee hike.

Notably, the RTMNU, after 9 years, had decided to increase the fee by 20 percent. According to the government rules and the decision of the High Court and the rising inflation, this decision was worthy in view of the salaries of the employees. But the decision was later kept on hold following strong protests by some student organizations.

Upset over the U-turn by RTMNU on fee hike, the college operators staged a hallabol agitation in front of the university, demanding that the fee hike be kept unchanged. During this protest, it was pointed out that while postponing the decision, the Vice Chancellor did not discuss with the managements or principals of the institutions. This is injustice to colleges and institutions, they said.

The protesting colleges said that in this era of inflation, according to the rules of the government, students have to face many problems including educational facilities and salary of employees. For private colleges, the system runs from the fees received from the students.

The colleges warned of an intense agitation if the decision was not withdrawn soon. A memorandum was also handed over to the Vice-Chancellor on the occasion.

The agitation was participated by the coordinator of the University College Managements Federation, Prof. Diwakar Game, Contact Head Prof Maroti Wagh, Antu Bhivgade, Rajesh Bhoyer, Sanjay Dhanwate, Sandeep Kale, Pandurang Tulskar, Praveen Kadu, Sarika Choudhary, Umesh Tulskar, Balraj, Lohwe, Rajesh Goyal, Borkar, OB Chaudhary, Sunil Shinde, DD Kamdi, Someshwar Chopkar, Praveen Bhange, Uday Tekade and others.
