: A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for five terms (1980-1985, 1990-2009) and Minister for Union Rural Development, Gopinath Munde passed away on June 3, 2014 morning after he met with a road accident in the national capital. Munde was admitted to the AIIMS trauma centre after he met with a road accident on way to the Delhi airport.

Nagpur Today, while paying the tributes to the great departed leader Gopinath Munde, brings to the readers tributes and condolences paid by BJP leaders in the city.

MLA Devendra Fadnavis: It is unbelievable. It is shocking. Just cannot express the sudden vacuum felt by lakhs of activists and party workers. Gopinath Munde was not just a mass leader but a fatherly figure in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). There cannot be another Gopinath Munde. My deepest condolences and tributes to The Great Mass Leader Gopinath Munde.

State BJP Spokesman Girish Vyas: “The tragic death of Gopinath Munde is most unfortunate and unbelievable for crores of Bharatiya Janata Party workers and well-wishers as well. Today’s morning turned out to be the darkest ever morning for Munde family when Gopinathji died in a small road accident. He was Maharashtra’s leader on par with Ajatshatru and Bhishma Pitamah. Gopinathji was a Janata Raja, Visionary Leader and an Encyclopaedia of Bharatiya Janata Party. A well read leader from Gram Panchayat to Vidhan Sabha to Lok Sabha and knew common workers by their names. He strived for welfare of farmers and backward class communities in his entire life. He served the people as MLA for five terms and will be remembered for his sterling performance as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister. The death of Gopinath Munde has created a void for Bharatiya Janata Party which would be hard to fill. I pray God to give Munde family the strength to overcome this insurmountable loss,” said Girish Vyas, BJP State Spokeman, in his condolence message.

MLA (West Nagpur) Sudhakar Deshmukh: Gopinath Munde was a very senior leader of BJP and the sudden demise is a big jolt to the party. Gopinath Munde was connected to the masses and was ever-ready to serve the people which earned him the title “Lok Neta”. Gopinath Munde laid the foundation of BJP in Maharashtra. He played a vital role in bringing the party to this level. He was a leader for Other Backward Class (OBC). Wherever and whenever, there is an act of injustice committed on any one, he was sure to fight for them. He had fought for the rights of OBCs in Maharashtra. His sudden and sad demise in this road mishap will not only be felt by the state of Maharashtra but the entire nation. He leaves a very big void which no one can fill. Not only the family but the party too will really miss him.
