Citizens running to Quacks for ‘Aphrodisiacs’

Nagpur: Citizens, comprising old and young, are not simply cautious about their health in general, but they are also cautious about their sexual fitness, and they dare undergoing costlier treatment for their satiation. For them, the quacks are the best source to be in contact with, bothering not at all for side effects of the medicines they would be consuming or paying through their nose, as regards the cost. Such quacks (neem hakim) in dozen are flourishing in the city and district these days and catering to the needs of citizen from their tent-based clinics, set up on road-sides, where queues may be noticed during afternoon as well as evening hours.

Medical treatment, particularly in terms of allopathic formulations, has become so cumbersome to one’s purse, that common man dwelling in every fifth house, can hardly afford to undergo allopathic treatment for any physical complication including the ‘secret diseases’ (sophistically termed ‘gupt roag’ in Hindi parlance). And so, citizens approach the quacks to seek satiation as per their preference. It seems that the customers of quacks are completely happy with the received treatment that is why they hover round them. The customers visit the quacks for treatment various sorts of disease and particularly for increase of potency with guaranteed course of treatment.

Such quacks are prominently seen on the Amravati road, Bhandara road, Jabalpur road, Nagpur railway station roads, Sitabuldi and ST Bus Stand, etc. Kamptee has become know for treatment of potency, and the clinic there is running well.

The quacks treat their patients with traditional herbs (jadi-buti) and oil which work as aphrodisiac. In addition, they also claim to be treating chronicle stomach ache, waist ache, back ache, joint pains, stone (pathari), eye diseases (glycoderma), warts, leucoderma (white patches) and hundreds of physical complications. After providing a free dose to the patient  and finding him satisfied, the quack would charge for regular course of treatment, money ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 3000, negotiable, as has been learnt.
The modern youths are found to be more in number with these quacks. They buy herbal medicines for their sexual enjoyment, and they also bring their friends to the quacks. Their herbal patents are known as amar phal, barf phal, kand, joshile ambar tila, raja madan mast, ishq ambar, paladi salam, kamraj modak, balraj modak, kamraj churna, pahadi jadi and so on.
