Nagpur: Another chlorine gas leak has been reported in the city. Panic spread after chlorine gas leaked at the MJP plant in Shankarpur, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Beltarodi Police Station.
This is the second chlorine gas leak incident reported in Nagpur within a few days. Earlier, a chlorine gas leak occurred at a water treatment plant in Godhni, raising concerns over the safety arrangements at such facilities.
According to Beltarodi Police Station Inspector Ritesh Aher, chlorine gas leaked at the Shankarpur MJP plant. However, no injuries or other damage have been reported. Police said the leak has been repaired and the situation is currently under control.
However, the recurrence of such incidents has raised questions about safety measures at the plants. Following the Godhni incident, the leak at Shankarpur has once again raised concerns over how robust the safety arrangements are at water treatment plants to prevent gas leaks and respond to emergencies.
With these incidents occurring one after another, questions are also being raised about the administration’s preparedness and the monitoring of safety standards at the concerned plants.
