Nagpur: Here’s some good news for those communting through Chinch Bhuvan and Sadar areas on routine basis. The commuters passing through these stretches would soon get respite from the traffic snarls due to flyover and ROB works going on respectively in Sadar and Chinch Bhuvan areas. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set the deadline for completion of both Sadar flyover and new Chinch Bhuvan railway overbridge (ROB) as March 2019. The authorties are pretty sure the two projects would be ready by the set deadline.

Abhijit Jichkar is the project director of these two projects. Jichkar however, made it clear that the Automotive Square to Kanhan six-lane road will not be completed on time.

According to Jichkar, work on Sadar flyover was about 50% complete. “There are no problems with the project and it will be completed by March,” he said. However, work on new Chinch Bhuvan ROB is only 30% complete. “The contractor had completed the shuttering of a minor bridge, which is a part of the structure. However, it was washed away during the heavy rains in July. This has delayed the project by one month. However, we will still complete it on time,” said Jichkar.

On the other hand the work of Automotive Square-Kanhan road got stuck in a public interest litigation (PIL) pending at Nagpur bench of Bombay high court. “We are building a 26 metre wide road because at some places only this much right of way (ROW) is available. At other places it is 36m and 45m but we can’t go in for land acquisition because it is not a part of national highway anymore,” Jichkar said.

The RUB has got delayed because a 1,200 metre diameter water pipeline lies on the spot. It has to be shifted and this will take time.
