Nagpur: In a swift intervention, authorities foiled an attempted child marriage in Malapur village of Narkhed taluka, rescuing a 15-year-old girl just in time. The minor, a Class 8 student, was allegedly being married off to a 35-year-old man under the guise of a religious function.
Acting on a tip-off, the Child Protection Unit coordinated with Kondhali Police, who rushed to the spot and safely rescued the girl. Following the operation, legal action has been initiated against those involved at Narkhed Police Station.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the marriage was being conducted secretly under the cover of a religious event. Officials confirmed that strict action is being taken under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act and the POCSO Act.
Authorities have warned that not only the organizers but also anyone aiding such acts will face stringent legal consequences.
Key officials involved in the rescue included District Women and Child Development Officer Sunil Mesare, District Child Protection Officer Mushtaq Pathan, Police Inspector Mangala Mokashi, Child Protection Coordinator Prasenjit Gaikwad, and Childline representative Meenakshi Dhadade.
The rescued minor has undergone medical examination and is being shifted to a child care home. A final decision regarding her rehabilitation will be taken by the Child Welfare Committee.
