Chidambaram gets bail, but Diwali in jail

The Supreme Court has granted former finance minister P Chidambaram bail in the INX Media corruption case registered by the CBI. He has been granted bail on a surety of Rs 1 lakh. However, he will remain in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate in Tihar jail.

Chidambaram was arrested in connection with the graft case on August 21 by the Central Bureau of Investigation, which has recently chargesheeted him and others, including his son Karti and some bureaucrats, for causing loss to the exchequer by allegedly committing offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.
