‘Chanakya’ leaves Nagpurians spell-bound at Khasdar Sanskrutik Mahotsav

Nagpur: ‘Chanakya’, a play directed by noted actor, also seen acting in the play drew a huge crowd in Nagpur. People stayed tuned, their eyes glued to the screens and the stage throughout the performance at Khasdar Sanskrutik Mahotsav being organised at Ishwar Deshmukh Physical Education College ground in the city.

The play, based on Vishnugupta, teacher, strategist, philosopher, economist, jurist,and royal advisor was well received by the people of Nagpur. The play is a tale of how this one visionary statesman took the initiative to carve India, out of the regions it was divided in. This period drama narrated the story from the invasion of Alexander the Great, King of the ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedonto the establishment of the Mauryan Kingdom under the rule of Chandragupta Maurya. But this lavishly mounted Hindi costume drama does more than just tell a story. It creates a feeling of nationalism, patriotism, and values this country was built upon and gives the audience an opportunity to introspect the society today.

Manoj Joshi, who was seen playing ‘Chanakya’ won the audience single-handedly with his sharp,stylised dialogue delivery. Monday marked the1780th performance of the play. The elaborate costumes and set design takes one back in time. Manoj Joshi’s ‘Chanakya’ is an experience to relish.

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister, Road Transport and Highways; Satyanarayan Nuwal, Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Solar Group; Ajay Sancheti, former Member of Parliament; Rajendra Purohit, Managing Director, ‘The Hitavada’; Manoj Suryavanshi, Chairman, Nagpur Improvement Trust; Vilas Kale, Social Activist and Businessman; Rani Dhavale, Member, Kinner Mahamandal Maharashtra Pradesh,were prominently present at the event.

On the occasion, all artists were felicitated at the hands of Manoj Joshi and Nitin Gadkari. Bal Kulkarni and Renuka Deshkar moderated the event. The fourth day of central India’s biggest cultural festival began with an incredible dance performance by 15 transgender artists of Mission Vishwa Mamatwa Foundation trained at Mudra Dance Academy. The performance was a tribute to India and its beautiful varied culture and featured famous dance forms from Rajasthan to Uttar Pradesh,Punjab, andMaharashtra.

The performance was met with a huge round of applause and appreciation from the viewers. The dance was directed by Shraddha Joshi and Jayshree Barai. The programme was moderated by Swara Vishwas.
