Nagpur: Wadi Police of Nagpur arrested a scooter-borne robber who was involved in two chain-snatching incidents recently. Cops recovered four gold beads, a pendant and a Honda Activa (MH-40/AZ-3912) from his possession.

Identified as Rupesh Ramesh Tikle (28), the accused is a resident of Tiwari Layout, Pulgaon Road, Deoli, district Wardha. Aruna Manoj Nandurkar (37), a resident of Atey Layout, MHADA Colony, Wadi, was returning home around 9.30 pm. Behind Mangaldham Apartment at Siyaram Nagar, Rupesh, who was wearing a blue jacket, came on a scooter and snatched the gold mangalsutra from her neck. Before Aruna could realise what had happened, Rupesh sped away.

After an hour, Rupesh targeted another woman — Bharati Prashant Wasnik (24), a resident of Sonba Nagar — on Khadgaon Road and snatched the gold mangalsutra worn by her. Before she could raise an alarm, he sped away. Soon after receiving complaints from Aruna and Bharati, police immediately launched a manhunt for the accused based on the description given by the victims. Cops checked the footage of CCTV cameras and apprehended accused Rupesh.

He was arrested on charges under Section 392 of the Indian Penal Code. Possibility of involvement of Rupesh in similar other crimes could not be ruled out. Further investigations are underway.
