In addition, the court levied a penalty of Rs 50 lakh on the company itself for its role in the offence.

According to the prosecution, the CBI had registered the case on August 4, 2014, following allegations that the company and its key officials deliberately submitted false and misleading information in application and feedback forms submitted to the Coal Ministry. Investigators found that the accused had misrepresented facts relating to the company’s financial net worth, production capacity, land ownership and environmental clearances to wrongfully obtain the allocation of the Rawanwara North coal block.

After completing the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on August 31, 2016, against M/s SKS Ispat Ltd. (now known as M/s SKS Ispat & Power Ltd.), naming Deepak Gupta, Satya Narain Dwivedi and Amrit Singh as accused.

Following a detailed trial, the court concluded that the prosecution had successfully established the charges and held the company and its officials guilty, leading to their conviction and sentencing.

The verdict adds another chapter to the long-running coal block allocation cases, reinforcing judicial scrutiny over irregularities in the allotment of natural resources.
