India’s two cricket heartthrobs Irfan Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja broke the hearts of many of their female fans as the former tied knot with the 21 year old girl Safa Baig from Jeddah while the latter got engaged Rajkot based mechanical engineer Reeva Solanki on Friday.
Irfan married Safa Baig at Haram Shareef in the holy city of Mecca on Thursday. Sources close to his family said that they were seeing each other for last two years.
“Irfan and Safa met in Dubai about two years ago and later came close. Safa even visited Vadodara to meet Irfan’s family. The duo got engaged about three months ago following which the wedding date was fixed,” said a source.
Safa grew up in Azizyah, a district in Jeddah and she is an alumna of the International Indian School in Jeddah. Daughter of Mirza Farooq Baig, Safa was a model by profession and now works for a PR firm in Jeddah. She is also popular as a nail artist.
It was a simple wedding ceremony in Mecca and the Pathan family had kept it a low-key affair. Only family members and close relatives of 31-year-old Irfan and Safa were present during the ‘nikaah’ following which the Pathan family had organized a dinner programme at a plush hotel at Al-Hindaweeyah on Thursday night.
“Irfan and his family may return to the city on Friday night and Safa will come later,” said a source. Irfan is expected to throw a grand reception in March and the venue will, in all probability, be the Laxmi Vilas Palace.
Meanwhile, the engagement ceremony of Ravindra Jadeja and Reeva Solanki was held in the presence of selected invitees at Jadeja’s own restaurant and the cricketer expressed hope that lady luck would help him do better in both cricket and personal life.
“In the game of cricket luck plays an important role and when I got engaged to Reeva, I hope that lady luck will help me to do better in both cricketing life and personal life,” Jadeja told mediapersons after the ring ceremony at his restaurant ‘Jaddu’s Food Field’ located on Kalavad road in Rajkot.
