The Business Advisory Committee (BAC), MIHAN, extends its heartfelt congratulations to Shri Vipin Itankar, IAS, on his appointment as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of MIHAN. In a gesture of felicitation, BAC members Dr. Dipen Agrawal, Julfesh Shah, Devendra Parekh, Shivkumar Rao, Manohar Bhojwani , Hemant Gandhi, and Rajan Thaokar along with prominent stakeholders, presented a shawl and floral bouquet to Shri Itankar, expressing their confidence in his visionary leadership and administrative expertise.
This marks a milestone for MIHAN, as Shri Itankar has been vested with full powers as Vice-Chairman-cum-Managing Director (VCMD) for the MIHAN project, in addition to his role as CMD of Mihan India Limited (MIL), the special purpose vehicle operating Nagpur Airport. This dual role consolidates decision-making at the local level in Nagpur, eliminating the need to route approvals through Mumbai.

MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) has always been a cornerstone of Vidarbha’s industrial and economic growth. BAC acknowledged Shri Itankar’s proven track record in governance and development, expressing optimism about his ability to propel MIHAN into its next phase of success.
During the interaction, Shri Itankar emphasized the need for streamlining processes to expedite investment decisions and address challenges like the rehabilitation of project-affected persons (PAPs) to facilitate land transfers. With his enhanced authority, he aims to accelerate key infrastructure projects, making MIHAN more attractive to investors and fostering industrial growth.
The BAC highlighted several focus areas requiring immediate attention to drive MIHAN’s progress:
1. Day-to-Day Monitoring of Airport Operations:
The appointment of the District Collector as MIL Chairman is expected to ensure daily supervision of critical airport operations, including the ongoing runway recarpeting project. This will address delays and ease hardships faced by travelers.
2. Concessionaire Agreement with GMR Airports:
The BAC acknowledged the significance of the concessionaire agreement between MIL and GMR Airports, which will oversee the airport’s expansion. This development is vital for enhancing Nagpur Airport’s infrastructure and operational capabilities.
3. Expedition of Takeover Formalities:
The BAC stressed the need for the swift completion of formalities to enable GMR Airports to commence expansion plans, improving Nagpur’s connectivity and positioning it as a key aviation hub.
4. Collaborative Oversight:
With Shri Itankar at the helm of both MIHAN and MIL, the BAC anticipates seamless coordination and faster decision-making to resolve challenges and ensure the successful execution of airport-related projects.
5. Ease of Doing Business:
Streamlining approval processes and eliminating procedural bottlenecks to attract and support industries.
6. Infrastructure Development:
Prioritizing upgrades to critical infrastructure, including roads, water supply, and uninterrupted power, to meet industrial demands.
7. Air Cargo and Logistics Expansion:
Strengthening MIHAN’s role as a global logistics hub to boost exports and integrate the region into international trade networks.
8. Support for MSMEs:
Encouraging small and medium enterprises through targeted policies and timely incentives to foster employment and inclusive growth.
Shri Itankar’s dual role as MIL Chairman and District Collector enables him to address both operational and strategic aspects of MIHAN and the airport. The BAC believes his leadership will not only accelerate Vidarbha’s industrial growth but also position MIHAN as a model for efficiency and progress.
