Nagpur: A notorious builder and his son, who were wanted by Jabalpur police for causing death of seven persons negligently, were nabbed by Nagpur police from a hotel in Somalwada area on Saturday night. In fact the drunkard driver of the builder provided a major breakthrough for the cops in the arrest of father-son duo, Mahesh Khemtani and Ashish Khemtani. City police have handed over the two accused to their Madhya Pradesh counterparts.

According to police, the Khemtanis are builders in Jabalpur. A 10-storey building, constructed recently by the father-son duo, collapsed due to inferior construction. The debris of the collapsed building crushed seven persons to death. The Jabalpur police had booked the Khemtanis on the charges of causing the deaths negligently. From that day, the father-son duo went absconding and were hiding in a hotel in Somalwada area of Nagpur. Their driver – Nirmalsingh Manjitsingh – too was accompanying them. On Saturday night around 11, Nirmalsingh was driving S-Cross car (MP-20/WA 1345) recklessly under the influence of liquor in Ganga Jamuna (Red Light) area. The traffic cops stopped him and subjected him to breath analyser test. The test revealed the driver was under influence of liquor. Cops detained him and subjected him to intense interrogation. The drunkard Nirmalsingh spilled the beans and told the cops that the car belonged to Khemtani father and son duo. He further informed the cops that the absconding builder and his son were hiding in a Somalwada hotel.

The traffic cops informed Lakadganj police about the development. Acting on the information, a team of Lakadganj police reached the hotel and rounded up the accused builder Mahesh Khemtani and his son Ashish Khemtani, wanted by Jabalpur cops. On being informed, a team of Jabalpur cops reached Nagpur and took custody of the two accused.
