Nagpur: The Kalamna Police have registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against a real estate developer for allegedly duping multiple plot buyers of lakhs of rupees.
According to police, the accused, Jaikaran Manharan Gurupanch, proprietor of Swastik Builder and Land Developers, and a resident of Shivshambhu Nagar, Bharatwada Road, Kalamna, allegedly sold plots carved out of land at Mouza Shirpur, Patwari Halka No. 19, Khasra Nos. 93 to 99, between May 22, 2017 and April 8, 2019.
The complainant, Birbal Jakhanlal Verma (52), a resident of Wanjari Layout, Gulshan Nagar, Kalamna, stated that he had purchased one plot from the accused for Rs 2.34 lakh. Police said the accused similarly sold plots to 14 other persons, collecting a total amount of Rs 23.41 lakh from them over time.
However, despite accepting the money, the accused allegedly failed to execute registered sale deeds in favour of the complainant and other buyers. Instead, he allegedly sold the same land to Ravi Jain and others, without refunding the amount paid by the earlier purchasers, thereby betraying their trust and causing financial loss.
Based on the complaint and subsequent inquiry, Police Sub-Inspector Roshan Raut of Kalamna Police Station has registered an offence against the accused under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
Further investigation is underway.
